Jason began his career as a middle school teacher and instructional coach in a rural, economically disadvantaged area of South Carolina. He then served as the executive director of the South Carolina Department of Education, providing on-site training and innovative solutions to low-performing schools across the state in order to improve the lives of students.
Prior to joining K12 Coalition, Jason was the executive vice president of a national education non-profit organization overseeing educator effectiveness, school improvement and professional development initiatives in districts nationwide. During his career, Jason has partnered with schools, districts and states to secure over $500 million in grant funding to support initiatives directly impacting the most economically disadvantaged students.
Jason believes that providing every child with an outstanding education is the most critical 21st century challenge because of the causal impact of education on all other challenges. He is motivated every day by the belief that every student deserves a high-quality teacher and that teachers deserve the training, support, coaching, tools and resources to succeed.
Jason earned bachelor’s degrees in history and political science at the University of South Carolina, as well as a master’s degree in secondary education and an Ed.S. in educational leadership.
Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.
