The Summer Learning Labs in Indiana are making a significant impact on student proficiency in reading and math. Data from 2025 shows that students who participated in the program achieved double-digit percentage point gains in both subjects after just five weeks of instruction.
Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education, emphasized the importance of these results, stating that the collaboration between schools and communities is crucial for supporting student learning. She highlighted the program’s focus on high-quality curriculum and consistent progress-monitoring.
In 2025, the Summer Learning Labs served over 12,000 students across 37 cities, offering free or low-cost instruction. The program’s consistent curriculum, developed by Lavinia Group, aims to help students start the next school year at or above grade level.
