Discover Our Solutions

Our best days are the ones when we get to roll up our sleeves to tackle opportunities large and small. Our approach from start to finish is collaborative, customized, and flexible. We’re ready when you are.

Strategic Planning

Competing priorities and daily challenges can cause even the best education leaders to lose focus on their long-term goals. Strategic planning helps clear the fog and gets you and your team energized to create and implement a thoughtful plan that brings bold change. Our approach is collaborative, iterative and attuned to your priorities.

Services

  • Strategic Plan Development: We follow a comprehensive, data-driven process that engages and aligns your stakeholders, including students, educators, and the local community. Then we leverage our proven Strategic Planning Framework to facilitate the crafting of a thoughtful plan that guides implementation and can be sustained for years to come.
  • Strategic Plan Updating: If you already have a strategic plan, we’ll provide a point of view on how it can be strengthened to more effectively address current challenges and opportunities. We then work alongside your stakeholders to revise the plan.

Recruitment & Retention

The teacher shortage nationwide demands a rethink of how we recruit and retain our best educators. We deliver on both sides of the solution – filling the pipeline with new teachers and helping schools attract and retain great educators.

We provide career switchers and unlicensed paras and subs with the education and mentoring they need to become licensed teachers.

We help school districts and charter schools predict their hiring needs and start recruiting well in advance of vacancies so they have teachers at the moment they need them. Our teacher development and career pathing plans ensure schools will keep their educators in the classroom for years to come.

Services
  • Fill the new teacher pipeline. Online alternative certification education program followed by 12 months of in-classroom mentorship
  • Attract and hire licensed teachers. A 12-month recruitment campaign that school leaders can customize and implement rapidly
  • Retain teachers. Retention analysis and customized, sustainable strategies to help schools keep their best educators

“Our partnership has had a tremendous impact on student achievement in our schools. School leaders have deepened their instructional knowledge and management, our teachers have developed deep content expertise and the tools to push student thinking, and most importantly our students are experiencing academic success on a large scale.”

Custom Professional Development

Schools and districts need a simplified approach to fulfilling their wide-ranging professional development and training needs. Today educators must navigate up to 50 different logins in order to access their subscriptions, tools, apps and resources. And school administrators are overly burdened with purchasing, managing and renewing these resources.

Equity Consulting

All students should have an equal opportunity to receive highly effective instruction, engage with rigorous curriculum, and benefit from fair policies and processes. Addressing educational equity is challenging work. It requires a strategic approach so that educators and educational organizations are able to both identify and take action to eliminate the inequities that exist.

Accelerated Learning

Challenge

Research has revealed that 1 in 3 children in kindergarten through 3rd grade have little chance of reading on grade level by the end of 2023 without major and systemic interventions. Students in 4th and 8th grade who took the Nation’s Report Card test in spring 2022 showed the biggest drop in math performance since 1990. And although this problem was previously seen across the country among urban, disadvantaged youth, the pandemic wiped out the gains we had achieved in closing the opportunity gap

Solution
Our RISE Summer School has emerged as the number one most effective strategy for academic recovery. It is explicitly designed – and proven – to accelerate learning in just five weeks for students performing 1-3 years behind grade level. We provide teachers with everything they need to achieve transformative results.
  • Five weeks of engaging, standards-aligned curriculum in literacy and math
  • Pre-program training
  • Weekly virtual professional development for teachers
  • Pre-and post-assessments
  • Progress monitoring and data analysis tools
  • The program is also flexible; schools can design their own summer schedule and pair this program with existing programs and/or enrichment partners.

Results

20,000 students in RISE Summer School 2022 grew an average of 47% in math and 60% in ELA in just five weeks.

Approximately 10,000 NYC students participated in RISE Summer School 2022 through our partnership with Bloomberg Philanthropies. In five weeks, the percentage of students proficient in math and English nearly doubled, prompting the program expansion to eight cities in 2023.

5,000 students in Indianapolis in RISE Summer School 2021 achieved statistically significant gains in the end-of-year state assessment, according to research by the Indiana DOE.

Equity Services

Challenge
Colonial School District (DE) faced a severe disparity in learning outcomes among its students of color, as evidenced by GPAs, state test scores, benchmark assessment scores and graduation rates, among other metrics.
Solution
Understanding that an external partner would bring additional experience and a fresh perspective, Colonial partnered with us to help them get to a stage where they could then continue the work independently. Together, we launched a multi-pronged approach to the problem and worked side by side with members of the Superintendent’s Council, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Director of Human Resources. We formed work groups comprised of school leaders and teachers across campuses to tackle specific solutions using our processes and tools:
  • Recruitment and retention
  • Policy and audit
  • Professional learning; and
  • Equity plan development

To ensure organizational cohesion, each of these teams shared and coordinated their work plans. Over the next several years, the district made tremendous progress and achieved its goal of building capacity to assess, address and solve education inequities.

Equity + Teacher Performance

Challenge
Rural and small schools simply do not get the resources or support they need to make big gains in teaching practices and student achievement. We were awarded a U.S. Department of Education grant to partner with five districts in MD, SC, DE, IN and TX to develop and implement a far-reaching program, called Empowering Educators to Excel (E3), to change the status quo.
Solution

We began by establishing a model for systemic change that we called the 7 Levers of Traction for School Improvement. Each lever was interlinked and designed to be sustainable beyond the first year. Side by side with our partners, we implemented the model in each of the 47 schools within the districts.

  • Networked improvement community
  • Strategic planning
  • Recruitment and retention
  • Leadership Academies
  • Instructional leadership teams
  • Professional learning communications
  • Instructional coaching

Results

66% of teachers reported that their students’ achievement improved

74% of teachers reported that their practice improved

In grades 3-8, Black students outperformed the White students in Language Arts and Math both in their districts and in their states as a whole
